These cruisers surprised me when they requested the Botanic Park for their wedding instead of the beach. Nevertheless, we were happy to oblige, and arranged a tour bus to take the group to the other side of the island, in the beautiful district of North Side.
The wedding took place inside the Wedding Gazebo which overlooks a little pond full of water lilies. There are many spots at the Botanic Park suitable for weddings, like the Colour Garden, the Heritage Garden, and a little shaded garden off the Visitor's Centre which is full of orchids. However, on a hot summer's day, the wedding gazebo was cool and shady.
You can order special flowers, like this bride did. If you send us a picture we will get our florists to make your dream wedding bouquet.
I was excited about doing this wedding at the Botanic Park, because I like when our visitors have the opportunity to see more of Grand Cayman than just the capital, George Town. Going out to North Side you have to drive through several small towns, and you will get a picture of the real Cayman. The drive out takes about 45 minutes, but it is well worth it, to see the natural flora and fauna of the islands. The Botanic Park is also the home of the Blue Iguana, found only in Grand Cayman.
The story of how the Blue Iguanas were saved from extinction is a very interesting one, you can find a book written about it at the Park's Visitors Centre, or at any of the book stores in George Town.
